Kinidhi is a place to keep the people in your family, how you're all related, and the stories worth remembering — built so a grandmother and a grandchild can both use it, and meet there.
Why we built it
Most families carry their history in a few heads and a shoebox of photos. When an elder passes, a library closes — the names of their cousins, the village they came from, the reason a relative is called what they're called. We built Kinidhi because that loss is avoidable. Given an easy, private place to put it, families will preserve far more than they ever write down.
We also built it because the tools that exist weren't made for our families. Western family-tree software has no idea that your mother's brother and your father's brother are different relationships with different names. In Telugu, Kannada, and many other Indian languages — that difference is the whole point.
What makes Kinidhi different
A real kinship engine
Kinidhi doesn't just store labels like “uncle.” It walks your actual family tree to compute the correct kinship term in your mother tongue between any two people — Telugu (మామయ్య, అత్త, బావ), Kannada (ಮಾವ, ಅತ್ತೆ, ಭಾವ), plus Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati and Punjabi — with more coming — and can answer “how are we related?” for anyone in the family.
Voices, not just names
Relatives can record short voice memories against the people in the tree, and Kinidhi weaves them into an AI-written family biography — so stories stay attached to the right person instead of fading away.
Multilingual by design
Kinidhi works in English and your language together — Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati and Punjabi today, with more coming — with an Elder mode built for family members who aren't comfortable with apps — large text, simple flows, and the language they actually think in.
Our principles
- Private by default. A family's data belongs to that family. Inside the signed-in app there are no ads, and your family's information is never used for advertising.
- Free to start. The browser-based tree maker needs no account and never sends your data anywhere — it stays on your device.
- Built for everyone at the table. If the oldest and youngest members of a family can't both use it, it isn't finished.
- Made to outlast us. The point of a family record is that it survives the people who made it.
